A Series of Unfortunate Events

A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

The film adaptation of the well-known series of novels is a fast paced film based on the unfortunate lives of 3 orphan siblings.

Despite having a fantastic cast (led by the ever wonderful Jim Carrey) the film somehow lacks structure and just seems to be a mixture of scenes created for audiences who have not read the novel. The orphans are sent to 3 guardians throughout the film and fire seems to be a common theme however the fire investigation is not brought to life until the 5th novel (Austere Academy) which for fans of the novel is most likely a let-down.
However humorous and true-to the character acting makes for an enjoyable family film with lots of enjoyment to offer,
In conclusion, fans of the book will be far from impressed with a fast paced crammed film with non of the structure from the books however non-readers will very much enjoy the humorous and character acting by Jim Carrey,
Having read the books, I give this film 7/10

Bruno

Bruno (2009)

The gay austrian fashion reporter Bruno (Sacha Baron Cohen) brings a whole new meaning to the word Controversy. However this makes for great cinema going as it reflects on many different groups in American society

Originally Bruno was granted a 15 rating but after inserting the sexual scene an 18 rating is certainly fit for such a controversial and rude mannered film. Hilarious as it is, Bruno has a much deeper message, the idea of an outsiders fight to be recognised in a place where he is new.

Featuring famous political faces and some rather (if frank) shocking people Bruno will shock audiences.

Filmed like a documentary Bruno features real-life situations with a fictional character trying to make in the American entertainment industry (quite badly I may add)

In Conclusion, If you love a laugh and want to see something new and ultimatley shocking that gives you an insight into American life and what society is really like

I give Bruno 7/10

Borat (Requested)

Borat (2006)

Borat (starring Sacha Baron Cohen) is a hilarious spoof comedy, starring real life events with this controversial character.

Despite being hilarious, it shocks you as things said are so offensive. Filmed like a documentary Borat sucessfully manages to convince you that the person this film is based on is a real person!

Funny sketches with well know faces (including Pamela Anderson) makes this film a must see if you do not get easily offended,
Borat, a television reporter and local celebrity in Kazakstan is filming a documentary about life in America after becoming a massive fan of Baywatch (a funny added touch), the very original plot is worked to it's limits in this hilarious film so,

In conclusion, MAY CAUSE OFFENCE but Borat is a great film to have a good laugh at,

I give Borat 4/10
ps. Thanks to Amber for the reccomendation and DO NOT BUY A MANKINI

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 1

Harry Potter (2010)

The penultimate film to the worlds most well-know phenomenon is an action packed adventure packed with lots of magic and romantic themes.

The film that broke worldwide records have once again produced a well-made film filled with many CGI effects. Having read the book, I am very annoyed at the lack of detail entered into the film but casting efforts have sucessfully let me take a breath of fresh after they have been saved by the ability to cast the perfect parts with actors.

Ron, Harry and Hermione have left Hogwarts school in search of the Horcruxes to finally bring down the notorius Lord Voldermort. Despite beginning and ending in an exciting manner the center of the film is very slow and not very much happens which lets the film down a lot.

The good things about the film are the ending: the film is left on a huge cliffhanger as Voldermort sucessfully manages to get The Elder Wand (the most powerful wand in existence). When I went to see it in my local cinema the audience growned at the shock of the finale to the first of a duo of final films

In conclusion, I fear that people who have not read the books will struggle to understand the storyline of this film however many will be impressed with the technology used to create effects in this wonderful film

I give this film 7.5/10
